Billy the Deer Dog

Uncle Ordie Watts of Monticello, Arkansas did an unusual thing back in the 1970's. He had a young billy goat that he put in the pen with his deer dogs. The goat started thinking he was a dog. He would try to bark and he would run with the other dogs through the woods to flesh out the deer. Ordie painted "GOAT" on both sides of "Billy" to make sure he didn't get shot. The story of this was published in the Arkansas Gazette Newspaper.

Poor Jack.  To be so accomplished, handsome and intelligent, "pert near perfect", a fine specimen of a man and to be treated this way!! :-)

My Podcast Site

Two new episodes on my podcast site. Three hundred ten followers and I don't even know them. Guess they like down to earth "folk art" if you want to call it that.  The newest episode is of mom trying to sing and dad joining in but forgetting the lyrics.  The one below it is my uncles Ordie and Carl talking about my great uncle Joe shooting the "mule" by accident.

Domesticated Moths

It takes patience to train a moth to be still like this one.

One of my favorite photos

I took this photo in 1997 in the Milwalkee Art Museum. It was a short stop on our first trip to Door County.

Mom met us in Branson over the weekend and we really enjoyed ourselves. It was mom's first outing like this in the past 1.5 years. More pics can be found on my smugmug site.

My Flag My Country

I thank all those who fought for our freedom and rights and who made this nation great. Freedom isn't free. I remember my seven years in the U.S. Coast Guard and often wish I had stayed in for twenty. May God Bless our Country and may everyone have a wonderful and safe July 4th holiday weekend.

All That I Live Slide Show

The message is alright but my posting this is to point out yet another cool service and technology. I may try creating a PowerPoint slide show like this for a set of photos.

Easter 2010

Visited Mom Saturday and Sunday. Took this photo after church and our lunch at Western Sizzler.  Spring weather is helping us feel better after a long and difficult 2009.  Uncle Ordie having advanced bone cancer is our concern now.  We visited with him after we took this photo and changed clothes. Ordie and I shared a lot of memories and before leaving we exchanged a good long look and said our "I love U's". We owe our parents, aunts and uncles so much when you think about it.

I brought out into the yard at least 30 potted plants from Dad's old work shop that were stored there through the winter.  Now Mom has something to do. She called the back of the yard her "sick bay" and she tells the plants "once you get to looking better I'll move you up to the patio".

TNT not THT

Theodore Howard Totten and the initials THT should have been TNT according to my Dad. In my recent podcast episode Mom explains how he got his name. Click here to be directed to Mom's audio recording.

Dad's Gone but not Forgotten

Dad passed away on November 28, 2009 at the age of 75. The cause of death was congestive heart failure which was brought on from the condition of his lungs and a weak heart. Dad passed away 2 weeks after his 18th chemo session. His lungs were scarred from 50 years of smoking, he had emphysema and cancer had come back on the right lung (the one he had partially removed earlier in the year). He passed away approximately 8 months after being diagnosed with cancer. The surgeon said he was stage III and almost IV. We really had no idea just how little time he had left. Dad was loved and we talked every day. What a lucky man I am to have had him as my father. There are pictures of him on my smugmug web site.
