September trip to Arkansas

My daughter Katey, wife Jennifer, and I went shopping for baby things yesterday. I experienced two "firsts" - one was shopping with Katey for my grand daughter and the other was ordering from the "seniors menu".

Conservatives, it seems, led us into the financial collapse that President Obama did his best to minimize (since they didn't and still don't want regulations on Wall Street trading), and with Bush borrowing from China to fund an unfounded war with Iraq (almost a trillion dollars). I don't care for false ads trying to blame Democrats for an unbalanced budget when the last balanced budget was due to a Democrat administration being in office. I don't think the American people will be misled. Lasting change isn't fast or easy. I am thankful my extended family, friends and their parents have social security, Medicare and Medicade available to them - thanks to Democrats putting these in place against the wishes of the fiscally responsible Republicans those many years ago.

Homemade Ice cream Recipe

Today, it's the Basicila and homemade ice cream. Here is Mom's recipe for homemade vanilla ice cream: For a half gallon of home made vanilla ice cream 2 1/2 cups of sugar 1 can of carnation pet milk (big can) 3 eggs (mix all three: sugar, pet milk, eggs) 3 teaspoons of vanilla flavor pinch of salt (just a little between fingers) maybe a quart of milk (2-3 cups of milk) Mix everything When you see it come to a boil then lift it up and keep stirring. Don't let it boil over In 5 minutes it's ready Get your ice cream bucket and pour 2-3 cups of cold milk Then add the cooked mix Put the lid on - put bucket into the wooden bucket then put in ice and rock salt (fill it up) Pour out the water as the ice melts When it stops - pull out the dasher (wand that churns) Then put ice all around and place towel over top let set for at least 30 minutes (the longer the firmer)
